European commission
The European Commission is the executive body of the European Union. Alongside the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, it is one of the three main institutions governing the Union.
Its primary roles are to propose and implement legislation. The Commission consists of 25 Commissioners, one from each member state of the EU.
But in the past it was different. Before the admission of 10 new states has EC 20 Commissioners. 5 states – France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Great Britain – had 2 Commissioners in EC; the rest – 10 states – had only one. After the admission of new states 1st. May 2004 was the number increased to 30 Commissioners, but after few months was the number of Commissioners decreased to 25 – each country has only one Commissioner.
The head of the EC is a president proposed by European Council and confirmed by European Parliament. Next members are nominated by Council of the European Union, president of the European Commission and confirmed by European parliament.
In spite of the members are nominated by member countries, they can’t request for instructions of any government or other authority.

European parliament
The European Parliament is the parliamentary body of the European Union, directly elected by EU
citizens once every 5 years. Together with the Council of Ministers (Council of the European Union), it composes the legislative branch of the institutions of the Union. It meets in two locations: Strasbourg and Brussels.
Parliament has (after the enlargement of EU to 25 states) 732 Members of the European Parliament (before enlargement it was 626). Number of the „members“ for each country it is established in the Maastricht Treaty:
Basic competences of EP are: legislative, budgetary and control. The politic role of EP is rising too.

European Council (Evropská rada)
The European Council, informally called the European summit, is a meeting of the heads of state or government of the European Union, and the President of the European Commission.
This institution is different from the Council of the European Union (which includes the ministers with the relevant portfolios) and the Council of Europe (which is a separate international organization).
