History
Nearly whole Europe was devasted after the WWII and had to deal with many problems. First of all, there was need to ensure basic conditions of living to the european citizens across all states. The latter need was to secure peace and safety. There was the opinion, that states cannot guarantee these needs by themselves. And as a third big problem, there was a warning of growing influence of the Soviet Union in Eastern and Central Europe. The Soviet Union was a potentional danger to western democracies, united Europe had more chances to resist the pressure of Soviet Union as a whole, than each state individually.There was also a need for a new economical spirit, because between two WWs, the politics and economies were set on thebasis of national interests. Which has a big influence on prices of imported goods -import duties were extreme. These economic needs also contributed to the estabilishment of new 'fellowship'.
