The War of Independence-1775-1783
13 colonies were under the British rule, they began to lose the feeling of dependence on their mother country and wanted to rule the country themselves
British government imposed taxes on tea, paper , glass and other articles, they refused to buy it
there were lots of smugglers
in 1773 – Americans dressed as Indians went on the British ship with tea and threw the tea into the sea (so called Boston Tea Party)
On July 4, 1776, The Congress adopted and proclaimed the Declaration of Independence, which established the USA and denied colonial obligations to England (author of the declaration – Thomas Jefferson)
1783 – Britain recognized the USA (13 colonies)
1788 – the new Constitution was adopted in Philadelphia
1789 – George Washington was elected the first president
1800 – The Congress met for 1st time in Washington and the president John Adams entered the White House
