This is one of the most important problems today, which has to be solved.
Man has been changing the world, since he appeared on our planet, but these days there is a real danger, because we are the only species that can change the world, that can choose either to look after our world or to destroy it.
All living organisms depend on resources of food, water and space. In the last 50 years new sources of energy and development of industry have brought a lot of negative effects
(f.e. water, air and soil pollution, the greenhouse effect, the ozone layer, the acid rains and changing weather and climate).
Pollution
We can divide pollution into 3 cathegories – air, water and soil pollution.
Althought the effects of pollution are usually local and it is mainly problem in large cities, they are more dangerous than they may seen.
The most harmful pollutants are:
factory smoke – these emissions damage all forms of life (nitrogenoxide and sulpur)
car exhaust – car, busses, trucks and aeroplanes are a part of our life, but all
produce exhaust
power station emission
pesticides
domestic fuels
coal mining – the area of Ostrava and Karviná is completely damaged because of
coal mining, which started in the 18th century
- soil pollution – result of industrial waste and harmful insecticides, pesticide
