We know a diverse range of accommodation from rural cottages to luxury flats and vast detached houses. The majority lives in houses and flats. But the types of the single house are quite different.
In Britain the most of people live in terraced houses. We can find their terraced houses in long lines in every city. It is a string of houses attached together but with individual entrances to each home. They were built in industrial cities during the 19th century for the factory workers. During the years they have been renovated and they are nice place to live. Usually there are situated two bedrooms upstairs, kitchen with dining room, living room and of course social settlement.
These types of houses occur in the US too but they called it townhouses.
In the suburbs of towns the detached houses are extended. The detached ones stand alone surrounded by garden. It has an entrance hall with stairs up to the first floor. On the ground floor there is often a large kitchen, dining area, a toilet, cloakroom, utility room, a couple of reception rooms and living room. Upstairs are four or five bedrooms (some with own bathroom), separate family bathroom and toilet. The attic may be converted into a study, a studio or it is used just for storage. They are most vast than terraced houses and that is the reason of the highest price.
In America are these houses called two-storey houses and they look quite similar as the British ones.
Other type of the houses in Britain is semi-detached house. Those are simply two houses joined side by side as a mirror image. They have fewer rooms and smaller gardens than detached houses. In the USA they are called duplex.
Another classical British house is the bungalow, which is cheaper version of the detached house. They have only a ground floor, with a conservatory at the back. There are many variations: they may have two or three bedrooms, extra study space, etc. They have no stairs. In America are similar the ranch ho
