Victorian period – Ch. Dickens
Wilde was a very famous Irish writer and one of the most considerable authors in England. He was leader of the Aesthetism – this is a movement not only in literature. It represents the same tendences that symbolism or decadence stood for in France. The writers used famous slogan “Art of Art sake“. Wilde was, too, a novelist, poet, critic philosopher and excellent speaker.
He study in Trinity Collagein, Dublin and Oxford. After that he moved to London. Here he published his first book, simply called : “Poems“. He wrote his the first play “Vera, or the Nohilists“ during his succesful lecture tour in America.
Wilde was two sons, so he wrote many stories including “The Happy Prince“ or “Ganterville Ghost“. All of his poems and stories had made him famous, but the plays he wrote after 1890 made him a legend. Such as: “Lady Windermere´s Fan“, “A Woman of No Importance“, “An Ideal Husband“ and his masterpiece “The Importance of Being Earnest“. Very famous is “The Picture of Dorian Gray“, his only nove
