ing. It is important that your business plan makes sense and that your projections for expected business are realistic and do not consist of numbers taken out of thin air. A bank will want to know how broad your customer base is and will be reluctant to lend money to an enterprise which relies too heavily on a few clients. The bank manager may present you with ‘what if’ scenarios to test how carefully you have thought through your proposal. They will quiz you on your order book. If you are starting a business from scratch, they will want to see evidence of a prudent attitude to initial expenditure. They will certainly not want to see money wasted on unnecessary or inappropriate business premises, for example. Even if you have no history of running a business, a bank may be interested in your credit history as an indicator of whether or not you are a safe person to lend to. This is where prudence in your everyday life will pay off.
