Car traffic pollution
Cars product gases which contribute to acid rain, smog and global warming. Smog irritates people´s eyes, throat and lungs. Carbon dioxide produced by the burning of ptrol is the cause of greenhouse effect.
Acid rain
A rain with very low pH is caused by the sulphur dioxide and nitrogen compounds with water in the atmosphere. This rain poisons lake water, which means that most of aquatic forms of life is killed.
Burning of fossil fuels
Because of the burning of fossil fuels such as petrol, chemicals are released into the atmosphere. They interact with the sun´s ultraviolet radiation in many dangerous ways.
Water pollution
Rivers, streams and coastal waters are polluted by chemical contaminants. The pollution is caused by sewage water (odpadní voda), garbage (smetí) and oil spills. Marine wildlife is beggining to suffer and quantum of fresh water is coming down.
Species extinction
Species are dying out because of destruction of natural habitats. People destruct particularly the world´s richest ecosystems – the tropical rain forests and coral reefs.
Chemical risks
Many industrially produces chemicals may cause cancer, genetic mutations or even death. A list of chemicals which has been found to pose serious health risks is still growing.
